Getting Spooky
Huzzah! I have survived my final weekend of this very busy month! In just three days it will be April, and I plan to spend most of the month on development and idea generation! I have a handful of productions at the end of the month, but they’re mostly out of state, in-person performances. A few will be Educational Workshops, so I’m looking forward to connecting with some student artists!
One exception to the in-person trend will be Rainy Day Artistic Collective’s Lightning Round Festival! I’ll be doing something I said I’d never attempt - a play-in-a-day challenge! Be on the lookout for details about that virtual performance, April 29th and 30th, 2022! I’d tell you more about the play but… I haven’t written it yet!
But speaking of plays I HAVE written…
My first opening this weekend was a production of Narcissa, Narcissa at the MTSU 6x10 festival in Tennessee. While I call this play ‘a poem for voices,’ it is also very much a poem for bodies. In this production, the text and movement were performed by two separate casts. The text was pre-recorded by actors and interpreted physically by dancers. The role of Narcissa was embodied by Millie Miles and voiced by Jen Cunic. The role of Reflection was embodied by Anara Holland-Holton and voiced by Mary-Beth Mangrum. The piece was directed by Sean McDevitt.
My Zoom play Fish Tank also had another outing this week! It was part of Strange Realms: Tales of Mystery and Horror, which is an ongoing series performed via Zoom every weekend through the end of April. I never expected to see this play produced again, but it’s clear that digital theatre has come a LONG way since it was first peformed in October of 2021! It was fun to revisit this play during Pandemic Year Three since it takes place during Pandemic Year Five - of a VERY different pandemic, of course! The role of Maddy was performed by Asha Devi and the role of Ellison was performed by Alex Newman. The piece was directed by Bryan Hagelin.
